Caryn's Molasses Cookies

This is my mommy's recipe!

Bake 375 F for 8 minutes

Melt 1.5 sticks unsalted butter (3/4 C) and let it cool a bit. Mix in 1/4 C molasses (dark is best) and 1 C granulated sugar. Then add a slightly beaten egg. Mix up 2 C flour, 2t baking soda and 1/2 teaspoon each of salt, powdered cloves and powdered ginger and then fold that dry stuff into the damp stuff.

Chill in the freezer for 20 minutes or 8 hours or so in the fridge. Roll into balls -- super ball sized? -- and then roll those balls in granulated sugar and put on a greased pan. Bake 375 F for 8 minutes -- 8 cookies per cookie sheet about. I let them rest on the pan about 4 minutes after I take them out -- they seem to crisp up nicely that way.
